Hoboken Grace

What is a
Dinner Group?

You moved here for opportunity. But somewhere between the commute and the career, you realized you left something behind. Community. People who know your name and actually know you.

A Dinner Group is where you find that again.

The basics

A handful of people,
just like you.

Different careers. Different backgrounds. Different stages of life. One shared goal: to not just hear it on the weekend, but to actually live it.

At work. At home. Out with friends on a Thursday night.

That's what a Dinner Group is built for.

Why we call it that

It started with a meal.

When Hoboken Grace was just getting started, we wanted a place where people could put what they heard on the weekend into practice. The problem was, when we asked people to join a small group, the answer was usually, "I don't have time." Fair. Life here is full.

But when we asked, "Want to grab dinner and get to know some people?" something shifted. People said yes.

Not every group shares a meal these days. Some do, some don't. Each group figures that out for themselves. But the name stuck because the idea behind it hasn't changed.

Come for the conversation. Stay for the connection. Dinner Groups were born.

What actually happens

Here's what a typical
night looks like.

You don't need to prep. You don't need to know anyone. You just show up.

01

Connect

You show up and get to know the people in the room. No agenda. No pressure. Over time, strangers become people who actually know each other.

02

Learn

You pick up where Sunday left off. Someone asks the question you were already thinking. The conversation goes somewhere real.

Apply

This is the point. You figure out what it actually looks like to live differently. Not alone, but with people who are working on the same things.

I didn't realize how important community in church was until I joined a dinner group. I have met some of my absolute closest, most valuable friends.

I looked in the mirror and didn't recognize myself. The group of guys I've been with, been able to share, been able to grow with, they've just been such a great support system.

God has done amazing things reminding us that the people we've found here are our community. Every time we come back from a holiday, dinner group is what reminds us this is where we're supposed to be.

Common questions

Real questions. Honest answers.

Anyone. Dinner Groups include people of all ages, backgrounds, and life stages. You don't need to know anyone or have been at Hoboken Grace for a certain amount of time. You just need to show up.
No. We have both 10-week groups and groups that meet year-round. Start where you can. Consistency matters more than commitment length.
No. New people join groups all the time. When groups are open, anyone can jump in, so you won't be the only one walking in fresh. If you want a fresh start with everyone, our short-term groups are a great option.
Not in the traditional sense. A Dinner Group is built around applying what you heard on the weekend to your actual life. We do offer Bible studies separately for deeper scripture study. You can browse our Bible studies anytime.
Sometimes. Each group decides that for themselves. The "dinner" in Dinner Group is less about the food and more about the kind of honest conversation that happens around a table.
Just listen to the weekend message before you come. Your group leader will let you know if there's anything else, like bringing food or drinks.
Pick a night where you can show up consistently. All groups share the same purpose. Consistency is what builds connection, so choose a time that actually works for your schedule.
